Not you, gorgeous, your home!
2017 was a bit of a mom-blur for me. Sometime between January and June, I got my sh*t together and started acting like a #momboss. Before that, I was still recovering from the shock of having two kids in two years, the second one being a gorgeous little clingy, sleep-averse wild one. At the same time, I somehow managed to sell my beloved first home, move in with my in-laws, find our new dream home, move into it and immediately begin renovations. So yes, June through December, 2017, is what I can remember and what I did in those months was kind of a big deal, at least for me. I put myself out there. I built myself a brand. I started a following. I spiced up the design scene of Pikesville and welcomed it to Instagram. I’m no big shot designer in any way, I’m quite the opposite – just a girl with a love for all things pretty and an eye for design like you’ve never seen before. I’ve got hopes and dreams, but really all I’m trying to do is make everyone’s lives a little more beautiful. I’ll start out by sharing some of my favorite design tips I discovered during my first year as Luna Rosendorff – Design Consultant:
#DesignTip 1: You DON’T need to live in a space before you renovate it.
I hear it all the time, “just live in the place for a bit, get a feel for how you live there, and then renovate.” The problem with this advice is that you start living in the place and quickly get used to that set up. Any original ideas you may have had going in fresh-faced are now lost. Trust your instincts. Knock down the wall that bothers you before you get used to it. Or at least draw a big X on it till you have the time and money to do it!
#DesignTip 2: If you or your spouse hates something in the house, get rid of it.
“My husband hates that painting but I don’t mind it”…Uhhh, if your husband hates looking at something in your home, it shouldn’t be there. You should love every item in your home, and I can understand that that may be hard to do working with a budget or second-hand furniture, but the one thing you can do is make sure you don’t have anything in your home that makes you or your spouse completely cringe. And chances are, if he feels so strongly about it, he’s probably right!
#DesignTip 3: Open the damn blinds!
You want that light and airy feeling in your home, right? Then let the light in! Open your blinds every morning and let that sunshine in, it will make you feel more alive, trust me.
#DesignTip 4: Unless you have a need for a piece of furniture, you don’t need it.
Sounds minimalistic doesn’t it? Well it is. But it’s also practical, cost effective and a better way to live. So yeah, if you’re wondering if you should put an accent table against that blank wall of yours, you tell me…do you need it?
#DesignTip 5: Design is a process, let it be so.
You can rush a design, but what you’ll likely end up with is a rushed design. Take it easy and take your time. The more thought you put into the process, the more you will get out of it.
#DesignTip 6: Hire a designer.
We’re more affordable than you think and we’ll bring you expert advice, innovative ideas and the confidence that you are making your home beautiful in a unique and long-lasting way.
Cheers to all of my amazing, trusting and motivating clients, who made my first year in business a true blessing, and to the many more people and projects I hope 2018 brings!
Happy New Year!
XOXO, Luna
